Maryland GOP Official Quits in Gun Flap

WESTMINSTER, Maryland — A local Republican official resigned in protest after the group decided to raffle off a gun in a fund-raising event. But organizers say ticket sales are going great.
Betty L. Smith, vice chairwoman of the GOP's Carroll County central committee, sent in her letter last week, citing the group's plan to raffle a Beretta 9 mm handgun to raise money.
