Ballistic Record of Firearms and Ammunition
Definition and Selection Criteria
An official record is kept of ballistic information created by privately owned firearms and the ammunition discharged from them during test firing. The ballistic library may then be consulted to identify a firearm and its registered owner by matching it to a fired shell casing or bullet.
This category applies to civilian firearms only. A more common practice not catalogued here is for military and law enforcement authorities to maintain separate ballistic registers for state-owned firearms.
