Proposal to Relax Export Restrictions on Firearms in U.S. Unpopular

U.S. homeland-security and law-enforcement agencies have objected to
Obama administration proposals to relax export restrictions on

The agencies, in internal memos viewed by The Wall Street Journal,
warn the changes could help arm drug cartels and terrorists and make

ALBANY, N.Y. -- A new forensic technique using lasers may allow investigators to match gunshot residue to a specific caliber of firearm, U.S. and European researchers say.

Anti-piracy Security Firms Keep Guns in Floating Armouries to Avoid Law

The proposal would have cut costs and allowed events to be staged at more venues as it would have been safer.
Pentathlon GB chairman Anthony Temple welcomed the rule clarification.

Cumbria Mass Killer Owned 3 Licensed Guns 'Perfectly Legally' - Inquiry
2 November 2010
Guardian (UK)
Firearms laws should be strengthened in the wake of the murderous rampage in Cumbria by Derrick Bird, an independent report said yesterday. But only "far more fundamental changes" on private ownership of guns could have prevented the tragedy, the UK's senior firearms licensing specialist concluded.
The report clears Cumbria police of mishandling licences for three shotguns and a rifle granted to Bird, who murdered 12 people and seriously injured 11 others before... (GunPolicy.org)
