Ghanaian, Nigerian Suspects Caught Allegedly Smuggling Guns
30 January 2013
This Day (Lagos)
It was a perfect façade, so they thought. Who could have suspected that a couple riding in a neat-looking Mercedes Benz car was not what they pretended to be. To an ordinary onlooker, they were mere international travellers, perhaps heading to Nigeria on a pleasure or a business trip.
However, the vigilance of a police patrol team uncovered their evil intention. The duo of Mr. Daniel Ofori, a Ghanaian and his Nigerian counterpart, Ms. Olufumolayo Adeyemo, were nothing... (GunPolicy.org)

Trail of Bullet Casings Leads From Africa's Wars Back to Iran
11 January 2013
New York Times
The first clues appeared in Kenya, Uganda and what is now South Sudan. A British arms researcher surveying ammunition used by government forces and civilian militias in 2006 found Kalashnikov rifle cartridges he had not seen before. The ammunition bore no factory code, suggesting that its manufacturer hoped to avoid detection.
Within two years other researchers were finding identical cartridges circulating through the ethnic violence in Darfur. Similar ammunition then... (GunPolicy.org)

Call for Harsher Penalties, Enforcement for Gun Crime in Nigeria
8 October 2012
Leadership (Abuja), Opinion
Let us all first agree that the number of illegal arms in free circulation in Nigeria is permissible only in a state of anarchy. I don't think anyone, including the president himself, should have any problem agreeing with that. If what happened at the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, last week, does not become a frightening wake-up call to Nigerians and their leaders, then, it must be true that the country is jinxed.
If I were Jonathan, I would be very worried because what... (GunPolicy.org)
