Nassau police seize 5 firearms in 4 incidents

FIREARMS TRACING AND INVESTIGATIONS UNIT OFFICERS SEIZE FIVE (5) FIREARMS

(Nassau, Bahamas) An enhanced effort by the RBPF Firearms Tracing and Investigations Unit, aimed at ridding the streets of illegal firearms is paying off.

Officers assigned to the Unit have removed more than 100 illegal weapons off streets across New Providence since its implementation in September 2013.

The recovery of five (5) illegal weapons off the streets of New Providence on Thursday 5th December 2013, was yet another example of the excellent work of the unit.

In the first incident, around 11:20am, Firearms Tracing and Investigation Unit officers acting on intelligence went to the car dump at Marshall Road, where they uncovered two handguns along with a quantity of ammunition in an abandoned vehicle in nearby bushes. In the second incident, around 12:00noon, Firearms Tracing and Investigation Unit officers, acting on intelligence, went to Sutton Street off Kemp Road, where they searched an abandoned building and found a sub-machine gun.

In the third incident, around 12:35pm, Firearms Tracing and Investigation Unit officers, acting on intelligence, went to Amaryllis Avenue in Garden Hills, where they searched a dumpster and found a handgun with a quantity of ammunition.

In the fourth incident, shortly after 9:00pm, Firearms Tracing and Investigation Unit officers, acting on intelligence went to Third Street off Robinson Road, where they uncovered a shotgun in an abandoned vehicle.

No arrests were made in these incidents. Investigations are ongoing.
