WASHINGTON — Sen. Dick Durbin has gathered ammunition for one of his causes with the release of a federal study that finds potential dangers in a plan to destroy gun-purchase records within 24 hours.

Store of Weapons Found Buried in Old Cesspit

A cache of more than 200 firearms and ammunition has been discovered buried in an old cesspit in the Auckland suburb of Glen Innes.
The rifles and shotguns, including pump-action guns, were found at a property now occupied by Montana Wines' head office.
Contractors were excavating the site in preparation for the building of an office block.

Council Holds Off on Plan to Ban Guns from Public Buildings

A proposed city ordinance that would require Detroit public buildings, including recreation centers and libraries, to bar concealed weapons was tabled by the City Council Thursday.
The move led at least one member, Sharon McPhail, to question whether child safety is a high priority with the city.
McPhail tried to get the proposal approved at council's session Thursday, even though the city's Law Department hasn't approved the wording.
