Studies: Many Police Shootings Are Suicides

A surprisingly large number of people who confront police officers with guns are actually intent on doing themselves harm, not the police, the Associated Press reported April 26.
Canadian researchers who studied police shootings said that in at least 10 percent of cases, the people who were shot by police wanted to be killed. A Harvard Medical School study subsequently estimated that one in six police shootings in Los Angeles were in fact suicides.
