Free Gun Locks Under Scrutiny: Malfunctions Halt Program

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department has stopped distributing free gun locks through its community service centers after the trade organization providing them announced that the locks might fail. The National Shooting Sports Foundation of Newtown, Conn., has distributed 400,000 of the locks across the country but announced Tuesday that it would not send out more after it was learned the devices can spring open under certain circumstances.
