Possession of firearm by previously convicted person

Section 18

(1) A person who has, on previous conviction for any offence, been sentenced to imprisonment for a term of three years or more shall not at any time have a firearm or ammunition in his or her possession.

(2) A person who has been sentenced to imprisonment for a term of three months or more but less than three years shall not, before the expiration of five years from the date of his or her release, have any firearm or ammunition in his or her possession.

(3) A person who is subject to a recognizance to keep the peace or be of good behaviour shall not, at any time while subject to such recognizance as aforesaid, use or possess any firearm or ammunition.

(4) Any person who contravenes any of the provisions of the previous sub-regulations shall be guilty of an offence.
