Firearm Numbers

- The ACC recently made a "conservative estimate" that there are more than 250,000 long-arms and 10,000 handguns in the illicit firearms market in Australia.(66) Of these, 44% were not surrendered or registered after the Port Arthur massacre and 12% were stolen or the subject of staged theft.(67)
