Pour mettre un terme à cette situation, une opération de Désarmement a été initiée et exécutée pour lutter contre la prolifération et la circulation illicites des armes légères. Il s'agit de:
Niveau régional: Faire appliquer la 'Déclaration de Bamako' en adoptant une position commune sur la circulation, la prolifération et le trafic illicites des armes légères. Il s'agit de
Niveau Sous Régional: Adopter les résolutions du Comité Consultatif Permanent des Nations Unies sur les Questions de Sécurité en Afrique Centrale qui ont été formulées lors des assises de Djaména en octobre 1999.
Niveau National: La République Centrafricaine a développé des stratégies pour lutter contre la prolifération, la circulation et le commerce illicite des armes de petits calibres. Parmis ces stratégies, on note:
- Le renforcement de la coopération en matière de sécurité avec les Etats voisins
- La détermination de la portée et l'étendue de la circulation et du commerce illicite des armes de petit calibre sur le territoire Centrafricain.

Sub-regional level: The adoption of resolutions adopted by the United Nations Standing Advisory on Security Questions in Central Africa during the assizes in N'Djamena in October 1999.
National level. The Central African Republic has developed strategies to fight against the illicit proliferation, circulation and trafficking in small arms. These includes:
- Strengthening the cooperation concerning security with neighbouring States
- Determining the scope and extent of the illicit circulation and trafficking in small arms on the Central African territory.
