§ 32. Acquisition Permit for Weapons

(1) In order to acquire weapons and ammunition specified in § 19 of this Act, an acquisition permit for weapons (hereinafter acquisition permit) is required, except in the cases provided for in §§ 5 and 7 and subsection 9 (3).

(2) An acquisition permit grants the person indicated therein the right to acquire a weapon of the type set out in the permit, and subsequently to store and convey the weapon until it is registered, and also to acquire corresponding ammunition in the quantity indicated in subsection 46 (4) of this Act.

(3) An acquisition permit shall be issued to a person who applies for permission to acquire a weapon by the police prefecture of the residence or seat of the person or, in the case provided for in subsection 30 (3) of this Act, by the Police Board.

(4) An acquisition permit is granted only for the acquisition of a type of weapon which corresponds to the purpose for which permission to acquire a weapon is applied for…

(6) On each part of an acquisition permit, the issuer of the permit shall enter information concerning the acquirer of the weapon, the type of weapon and the number of weapons and also the name of the police authority and police officer which issued the acquisition permit. On Parts A, B and D of the acquisition permit, the seller of the weapon shall enter information concerning the weapon being sold and the seller of the weapon.

(7) An acquisition permit is valid for three months as of its date of issue. A permit may be extended for three months if an application for extension is submitted before the expiry of the permit. Upon the expiry of the period of validity of an acquisition permit, a new acquisition permit shall be applied for.

(8) The holder of an acquisition permit is required to notify a police prefecture promptly if the permit is destroyed or lost.

(9) The standard format for acquisition permits shall be established by a regulation of the Minister of Internal Affairs.
