El Decreto 409 de 12 de agosto de 1994 señala que el Gobierno Nacional tiene la obligación de llever un registro de los permisos de armas que se expidan a los nacionales y extranjeros que residan en el territorio nacional, para efectos de defensa personal, de la propiedad, cacería o para fines deportivos, según sea el caso.

Las armas son registradas por la Policía Técnica Judicial. Esta institución realiza la prueba balística, registra la serie, calibre, marca de las armas, para pasar a un sistema de archivo que permite dar información a las autoridades competentes que así lo requiran y otorgando el permiso de porte de las mismas.

La Policía Técnica Judicial cuenta con el equipo para remarcar las armas de fuego a las que se haya borrado su serie.

En la Dirección Institucional en Asuntos de Seguridad Pública se lleva un registro de las empresas dedicadas a la importación de armas y municiones, solicitándoles un informe mensual de ventas, junto con la información de las importaciones de armas que se han realizado …
