5. Destruction of illicit/obsolete firearms

In Tanzania, the destruction of illicit weapons is also the ongoing activity in order to reduce the amount of weapons in circulation.

In May 2009 we destroyed 2,765 obsolete firearms that were belonging to the Tanzania Prison Services.

Thus up to now we have already destroyed 11,305 weapons since we started this exercise in 2003.
