Destruction of Seized Weapons

As regards destruction of seized weapons, there have been no activities in this respect in 2007.

In January, area police stations handed over 29,259 pieces of weaponry that had been found or confiscated from individuals. These weapons are held at the central MIA depot and, once being administratively handled, will be designated for destruction.

In February, amnesty was granted for some 8,000 illegal weapons which were registered and collected in.
