Collection and Destruction

The Belarusian mass media broadcast information on the dismantling in December 2009 of a smuggling ring that delivered small arms and light weapons and ammunition from the Balkan region to the territory of Belarus and the Russian Federation.

A series of preventive measures is being taken in Belarus to combat the illicit trade in weapons, ammunition, explosive devices and explosive substances and to prevent violations of the law governing their use. Leaflets have been prepared and placed in public places, including public transport vehicles, and a "Farewell to Arms" hotline has been organized. Statements on prevention of the illicit arms trade are made in the mass media on a regular basis.
