Small Arms Seizure

An illegal arms-collection program carried out in 2002-2003 as part of Bangladesh's controversial crackdown on criminals, Operation Clean Heart, has netted 4,700 firearms.

Of these, 55 were modern automatic weapons.

As many as 34,000 weapons became illegal in November 2002 when their owners failed to renew their licenses. (121)
