Section 48. Recording of Weapons in the Republic of Latvia

(1) The Information Centre of the Ministry of the Interior in accordance with the procedures prescribed by the Cabinet shall perform the unified recording of firearms and high-energy pneumatic weapons of natural persons and legal persons (except the National Armed Forces) in the Republic of Latvia.

(2) It is mandatory in the Republic of Latvia that control shots be made at the State Police for all Categories A, B and C rifled firearms (except such firearms of the National Armed Forces) in circulation in which a bullet is in close contact with the barrel at the moment of shooting. The State Police shall keep the control collection of bullets and shell cases in accordance with the procedures prescribed by the Cabinet.

(3) Control shots shall be made with a Category A, B or C rifled firearm once every five years at the State Police.

(4) If repair of a rifled firearm has been performed and as the result of that the traces on the shot bullets and shell cases has changed, a person performing the repair shall deliver the firearm to the State Police within a time period of three working days after the repair for the making of control shots, and within a time period of three working days submit the statement of the making of the control shots to the institution in which the firearm has been registered.
