Art. 8 Obligation to hold a licence to acquire arms

1 Any person who acquires an arm or an essential component of an arm must hold a licence to acquire arms.

1b Any person who requests a licence to acquire a firearm for a purpose other than sport, hunting or collection must give reasons for their request.

2 No licence to acquire arms is issued to persons:
a. who have not turned 18 years of age;
b. who are prohibited;
c. for whom there is cause to fear that they will use the arm in a dangerous way for themselves and others;
d. who have a criminal record for an act indicating a violent or dangerous character or for repeatedly committing crimes or offences, for as long as the entry is not struck off.

2b Any person who acquires a firearm or an essential component of an arm by succession must request a licence to acquire arms within six months unless, during this period, the person transfers the object in question to an authorized person.
