Proliferation of Illicit Small Arms

Although the problem of the proliferation of illicit small arms and light weapons and the violence engendered by such proliferation do not affect Thailand directly, Thailand is concerned with this problem in Southeast Asia.

This problem is linked to inter-State and intra-State conflicts as well as other transnational threats to human security such as drug-trafficking. The issues of drugs, human trafficking, transnational organized crime, violation of human rights, terrorism and arms trafficking are inter-linked due to the borderless economy caused by the globalization process which facilitates the easier availability of illicit small arms and light weapons.

Thailand therefore considers the issue of the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons as a significant one and stands ready to work with the international community as well as civil society to address the challenges posed by this issue.
