Serán sancionados con diez a cien días multa:

I. Quienes posean armas sin haber hecho la manifestación de las mismas a la Secretaría de la Defensa Nacional;

II. Quienes posean armas, cartuchos o municiones en lugar no autorizado;

III. Quienes infrinjan lo dispuesto en el artículo 36 de esta Ley. En este caso, además de la sanción, se asegurará el arma, y

IV. Quienes posean cartuchos en cantidades superiores a las que se refiere el artículo 50 de esta Ley.

Para efectos de la imposición de las sanciones administrativas a que se refiere este artículo, se turnará el caso al conocimiento de la autoridad administrativa local a la que competa el castigo de las infracciones de policía.

Article 77

There shall be fines of ten to one hundred days for:

I. Whoever possesses firearms without having declared them before the Secretariat of National Defence;

II. Whoever possesses firearms, cartridges or the ammunition in a non-authorised place;

III. Whoever infringes provisions in Article 36 of this Act. In this case, in addition to the sanction, the firearm shall be seized, and

IV. Whoever has cartridges in superior amounts to those which article 50 of this Law refers.

To carry out the effects of the administrative sanctions referred to in this article, the case shall be passed on to the local administrative authority with the jurisdiction to impose police punishments.

[Note: This chapter makes frequent reference to "days of fines." This is a civil law practice in which a fine is assessed as a fraction of a person's annual income. So if one person makes income X, and a second person earns income 2X, and both persons are penalised "three days of fines," the second person will pay twice as much as the first person. Article 91 provides the cross-reference for how "days of fines" are calculated in Mexico.]
