Registered and 'Loose' Firearms
In the Philippines, official records show that 824,328 weapons were registered with the police in early 2003. Estimates as to the number of unregistered guns vary from 270,000 to 600,000. (3)
One 2003 press report claimed there were 439,119 firearms 'loose' within the country. Another source claims the total number of private weapons may be as high as 5.3 million. (4)

3) According to a Philippines government report to the United Nations, there are 284,100 loose firearms, of this estimate 189,766 were not registered, 2,156 were 'lost,' and 94,313 were in the hands of various armed groups and criminals. How this last figure was calculated is not reported.
