The Government of the Philippines banned the carrying of guns in public in what was considered the most drastic measure in decades to control the use of firearms.

About 800,000 people in the Philippines have been issued with gun licences but only half of these have been renewed.

Additionally the National Police have been authorised to track down and confiscate unlicensed firearms.
