De acuerdo a la ley, las armas de clasifican en:

- Armas prohibidas
- Armas restringidas
- Armas de uso civil

Las armas de uso civil se sub-clasifican en:

- Armas para protección personal
- Armas para protección de objetivos
- Armas de uso deportivo y caza
- Armas de colección

Decree No. 28-2005, Regulation to the Special Act on the Control and Regulation of Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives and Other Related Materials

Article 19. Firearm Classification

In accordance with the Act, firearms are classified as follows:

- Prohibited firearms
- Restricted firearms
- Firearms for civilian use

Firearms for civilian use are sub-categorised as follows:

- Firearms for personal protection
- Firearms for protection goals
- Firearms for sports and hunting
- Firearms for collection purposes
