Artículo 6 - La solicitud del THATA se realizará mediante formularios numerados confeccionados al efecto, donde se indicará: nombre, domicilio, documento de identidad, edad, impresión dígito pulgar, y firma del solicitante, mediante datos suministrados con exhibición de documentos y bajo declaración jurada.

El interesado deberá presentar los siguientes documentos: Fotocopia de la cédula de Identidad cuyo original se exhibirá al receptor; constancia de tramitación del Certificados de Antecedentes Judiciales (Decreto 382/999 de 7 de diciembre de 1999); "Certificado de Aptitud Psicofísica" expedido por los profesionales e instituciones habilitadas por el Ministerio de Salud Pública, y constancia laboral o justificativo de ingresos. Cuando el THATA se tramite por primera vez, el interesado deberá presentar además un "Certificado de idoneidad de conocimientos básicos sobre seguridad y manejo de armas", de conformidad con lo establecido en el literal f- del artículo 5o del Decreto 342/001 de fecha 28 de agosto de 2001, el que podrá ser expedido por los Centros de Formación de la Policía Nacional (Escuela Nacional de Policía y Escuelas de Policías Departamentales); Escuela de Educación física y Tiro del Ministerio de Defensa Nacional; Unidades Militares del interior del país con polígonos donde se puedan impartir los cursos correspondientes; e Instituciones Privadas de capacitación habilitadas por el Ministerio del Interior.

Los formularios podrán ser llenados en las casas especializadas en la venta de armas y que estando debidamente registradas en la Jefatura de Policía de su domicilio y en el Servicio de Material y Armamento, cumplan – a juicio de estas autoridades - con todos los requisitos y disposiciones reglamentarias vigentes, y hayan demostrado solvencia y responsabilidad en el ramo de armería.

Artículo 8 - Para la adquisición y tenencia de cualquier tipo de arma de fuego sin distinción de calibre, modelo o sistema, salvo las que se encuentran comprendidas en las excepciones del art. 13o, se requerirá la obtención del "Título de Habilitación para la Adquisición y Tenencia de Armas".

Firearm Applications - Criminal and Mental Checks

Article 6 - The THATA request shall be made through the corresponding forms, which shall specify the following: name, address, ID, age, digit thumb print and signature of the applicant, using data supplied to display documents.

The applicant must submit the following documents: photocopy of an original identity card, which shall be presented to the recipient; record of a certificate of criminal background (Decree 382/999 of December 7, 1999); a 'Medical fitness certificate' issued by professionals and institutions that have been authorised by the Ministry of Public Health, and salary or financial evidence. When the THATA is processed for the first time, the applicant must also submit a 'Certificate of suitability of basic knowledge on safety and handling of firearms' in accordance with provisions established in paragraph f) of article 5 of Decree 342/001 (August 28, 2001). These may be issued by training centres of the National Police (National Police Academy and Police Departmental Schools); Physical Education and Shooting School of the Ministry of National Defence; Military units inside the country with shooting ranges where they can provide appropriate courses; and private training institutions authorised by the Ministry of Interior.

These forms can be filled out in places specialised in the sale of firearms and shall be duly registered at Police Headquarters and in the Material and Weapons Service. These must comply with all the requirements and regulations, and [applicants] must have demonstrated reliability and responsibility when it comes to firearms.

Article 8 - The 'Competency Certificate for the Acquisition and Possession of Firearms' is required for acquisition and possession of any firearm regardless of its calibre, model or system, except for those that are covered by exceptions mentioned in article 13.
