It will now be easier for the police to find information about firearms.

A new directive on registration of firearms grants the police direct remote access to the weapons register for preventive, investigative and prosecutorial purposes in connection with gun-related crimes.

The directive on overseas transportation of firearms and how these should be stored has also been amended.

A so-called firearms passport will now be required for imports and exports of guns.

International travel with guns will now also require people to undertake a firearms safety course.

The firearms law dates back to 1969, with amendments from 1980 and 2015.
