According to official figures from the Ministry of the Interior, 5.4 million weapons are legally held in the country for about 5 million individuals, most of whom are sport shooters or hunters.

Of these, 3 million are in possession of category B or C weapons, known as lethal weapons, most often rifles and pistols, and 2 million are in possession of category D weapons, known as non-lethal weapons, which include knives, daggers or even truncheons.
