Macedonian Police Seize Nearly 500 Weapons, Quantities of Ammunition in 2005

Last year the police confiscated 464 pieces of weapons, over 10 kg of industrial explosives, 1 kg of TNT explosive and 21,336 pieces of various types of ammunition. The Interior Ministry also says that its efficiency in detecting criminal acts was 65.8 per cent higher in 2005 than in 2004 and that the amount of seized arms was twice as high as in 2004…

As part of last year's operation dubbed "9 July," the police organized two actions of destroying seized and confiscated arms for which the criminal and penal procedures had been completed. A total of 5,313 pieces of weapons were destroyed.

In the second half of 2005 the Skopje 1 and 2, Kumanovo and Gostivar courts of first instance took over 344 pieces of arms and 45 explosive devices for which the criminal and penal procedures had been completed.
