Relevant contents

More than 1100 firearms, including several illegal guns, have been handed into police as part of a three-month amnesty.

The 1144 weapons included handguns, pump action rifles, high capacity magazines and self-loading shot guns.

Some of the weapons were handmade and some were more than 100 years old…..

The amnesty that began on December 1 last year allowed people to address potential weapons issues and also offered assistance to people who wanted to dispose of firearms that were defective or no longer wanted…..

"The last amnesty in 2006 saw 1490 firearms surrendered in South Australia. That means under the Rann Labor Government more than 2500 firearms have been taken off our streets."
