When police raided the luxury property of a north Queensland doctor they found a huge cache of banned military-style weapons and ammunition hidden in a purpose-built underground bunker. Police urgently need to be armed with semi-automatic weapons to combat a surge of high-powered firearms in Melbourne's underworld, Police Association secretary Paul Mullett said yesterday. Police seized hundreds of guns in a raid on a gun shop in Wagga Wagga, in southern New South Wales, overnight. Police have confirmed the shop has been emptied of its firearms. It is understood more than 200 guns and a large quantity of ammunition have been seized. Police worked into the early hours of this morning to complete the job.
