KXXV-TV News (Waco, Texas)
25 Nov 2008

BELTON - A known felon was arrested Sunday as he attempted to buy an AK-47 style assault rifle at the Bell County Gun Show. An off duty officer noticed two known Temple criminals, whom he had personally arrested more than once, at this weekend's gun show as they attempted to buy weapons. The officer recognized Gregorio Martinez, a convicted felon, carrying a handgun around at the show and watched as Martinez tried to purchase the AK-47. When he failed the background checks necessary to buy a gun, he then tried to trade the handgun for the rifle. Again being denied by the vendor, the two men left. Two on-duty officers stopped the men as they... ( gunpolicy.org )

BERLIN -- A German man who slept with a loaded revolver under his pillow has lost his gun license after a court ruled it to be irresponsible behavior. The 56-year-old was stripped of his license for failing to store the weapon properly, Braunschweig administrative court judge Torsten Baumgarten told Reuters Tuesday. The gun was only discovered by chance during a police inspection. "His home was being checked because he had threatened to throw a hand grenade if the city council approved plans to build a high-voltage power line in his neighborhood," Baumgarten said. "The decision to take his license was made independently." Baumgarten said the... ( gunpolicy.org )

Irish Times / PA

A licensed Northern Ireland gun dealer was held up at gunpoint and robbed of a number of weapons, it was revealed today. Three masked men, one carrying a shotgun, held up the dealer in his shop at Main Street in Garrison, Co Fermanagh on Saturday evening, police said. Police are trying to establish whether dissident republicans are arming themselves. A Police Service of Northern Ireland spokesman said: "We are not ruling anything out at the moment." He said a number of guns had been stolen in raids across the counties of Fermanagh, Tyrone, Armagh and Down in the past couple of months -- but this was the first time a gun dealer had been robbed.... Obama Hiring Questionnaire Fuels 'Bias Against Gun Owners' Scare

Wall Street Journal / Political Diary Online, Blog
25 Nov 2008

Every president-elect vets his incoming staff and usually that vetting begins with a lengthy questionnaire. But one question asked on Barack Obama's questionnaire is raising hackles among gun owners and fans of the Second Amendment. Question No. 59 begins: "Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun?" The questionnaire goes on to insist that a gun-owning jobseeker "provide complete ownership and registration information," and asks: "Has the registration ever lapsed? Please also describe how and by whom it is used and whether it has been the cause of any personal injuries or property damage." South Carolina Republican Sen. Jim DeMint believes... Seeds of National US Gun Control Battle May Be Sown by Seattle Mayor

Los Angeles Times
25 Nov 2008

SEATTLE, Washington -- Seattle's annual Northwest Folklife Festival is a throwback to the hippie days, a laid-back celebration of folk music, grilled salmon and sandals with socks in a city that has always considered laid-back a point of civic pride. So when 19-year-old Joshua Penaluna felt a sharp pain in his wrist after two men came bursting toward him through the crowd at last May's festival, he assumed he had merely broken a bone as he fell. "Then I heard someone say, 'Oh my god, he's been shot,' " Penaluna recalled recently. Penaluna's girlfriend was also hit by the stray bullet and another person was injured. The shootings, in a city where... ( gunpolicy.org )

Theft, Misuse of Government Guns Real Threat as Ghana Elections Loom

Ghana News Agency
25 Nov 2008

With barely two weeks to the December polls, personnel tasked with security of national armouries have been asked to discharge their duties with a high sense of patriotism, nationalism, self devotion and self-sacrifice, to protect the armouries from pillage. This comes in the wake of reports suggesting that a major source of illicit weapons fuelling conflicts are leakages from state-owned stockpile. "Indeed the issue of small arms control should no longer be confined to the guns in the hands of civilians but to members of the security services as well," said Deputy Defence Minister, Mr Willam Ofori Boafo on Monday. "There is a perception that... ( gunpolicy.org )

US Gun Owners Fall for Obama Fearmongering, Gun Dealers' Sales Ploy

Tennessean (Nashville), Column
25 Nov 2008

From a campaign statement by President-elect Barack Obama on the U.S. Supreme Court Heller decision, June 26, 2008, and taken from the Web site, www.bradyvoter.org: "I have always believed that the Second Amendment protects the right of individuals to bear arms, but I also identify with the need for crime-ravaged communities to save their children from violence that plagues our streets through common-sense, effective safety measures. The Supreme Court has now endorsed that view, and while it ruled that the D.C. gun ban went too far, Justice Scalia himself acknowledged that this right is not absolute and subject to reasonable regulations enacted by local communities...
