MARYSVILLE -- A 42-year-old man told police that he accidentally shot and killed his 6-year- old daughter Sunday after drinking double vodkas while cleaning guns. Stormy Peters was shot in the head and died after being flown to Seattle Children's hospital. Her father, Richard D. Peters, was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of first-degree manslaughter, a felony. Monday afternoon, a judge ordered him held on $250,000 bail. Historic victories for gun rights occurred in 2008, but the fight for firearm freedoms must continue to preserve the Second Amendment, National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre told a crowd on Monday at Ashland University. NEWARK, New Jersey -- The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and representatives from the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) -- the trade association for the firearms industry -- today jointly announced a major campaign to reduce significantly the illegal straw purchases of firearms in New Jersey. The program, called "Don't Lie for the Other Guy," was developed to raise public awareness that it is a serious crime to purchase a firearm for someone who cannot legally do so or for someone who does not otherwise want his or her name associated with the purchase.
