Amnesty Yields 1,589 'Freely Surrendered' Illegal Guns in Angola

ONDJIVA -- At least 1,589 firearms of assorted calibers were freely surrendered to the National Police in Ondjiva, southern Cunene province, under the second phase of the National Campaign of Disarming of People in illegal Possession of Firearms. The information was released to Angop by the coordinator of the sub-technical commission for disarming, Domingos Francisco Adão. The officer said that the weapons were surrendered at police stations in the districts of Namacunde, Kwanhama,Cuvelai, Curoca, Ombandja and Kahama. Ghana Holds Gun Destruction Event, VP Calls for Weapon-free Elections

The Ghana National Commission on Small Arms (GNACSA), in collaboration with the United Nations Development programme (UNDP) yesterday in Accra organised a destruction of illicit weapons exerise. The exercise is under the theme 'Combating the menace of small arms for non-violent elections.' The Vice President, who graced the occasion, said 'the weapons destruction ceremony is to symbolise our commitment and determination not to use weapons to perpetuate violence and conflicts, especially in the up coming elections.' Alhaji Aliu Mahama advised the youth to reject any influence of being used to cause violence before, during and after the elections. ... ( gunpolicy.org )

Nothing about the stray bullet that killed an innocent man Nov. 7 surprised Tom Givens. As a matter of fact, carelessness is what the Memphis gun instructor expects from street marksmen who get their weapons training from TV and the movies. John Baker, 55, died after a stray shot struck him in the head while he was using a computer at his home on 4875 Foyle Way in Southeast Shelby County. Kwane Morris, 19, and Kenneth Spencer, 18, told investigators they were trying to settle a beef with an acquaintance. A bullet went through a window and killed Baker. Across the country, people afraid that Barack Obama will take away their gun rights are rushing to buy firearms. The word for such people is: suckers. Save your money for the mortgage. Save a restaurant worker's job by going out to eat. Democrats are not going to stop you from buying a gun. They are not going to take away the gun(s) you have. If you are a decent, law-abiding adult, it will not become illegal for you to buy or own a gun. The danger is that someone who isn't decent or law-abiding will break into your home and steal your gun. Or that a child will find your gun and kill himself playing with it.
