US Gun Control Campaigner Weathers 2-hour TV Grilling by Stephen Colbert
News-Sentinel (Indiana)
15 May 2008
Second Amendment. Great amendment or best amendment ever? That question never made the final cut of Paul Helmke's Tuesday night interview on "The Colbert Report," but the former Fort Wayne mayor and president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence had plenty to answer in a nearly two-hour session that was edited into a six-and-a-half minute segment. Stephen Colbert, the lefty provocateur on the Comedy Central network whose shtick is posing as a pompous Bill O'Reilly wannabe, playfully ridiculed Helmke's beliefs in imposing more gun regulation and restrictions. "They may hate guns, but they have no problem blasting holes in the Constitution," Colbert... ( gunpolicy.org )

Police Association secretary Paul Mullett says Victoria Police is "pontificating" over a "no-brainer" decision over whether to introduce semi-automatic weapons. The wounding of Senior Constable David McHenry, 27, during a shoot-out on Tuesday night has renewed union calls for Victorian police to be armed with semi-automatic pistols. Mr Mullett said Victoria was the only state in the country whose police force was lagging behind with an "antiquated weapon". He said Senior Constable McHenry's revolver had expended its six rounds. If... ( gunpolicy.org )
