Colorado Man Buys Handgun at Gun Show, Unintentionally Shoots Himself

A 64-year-old Littleton man was leaving the Tanner Gun Show this afternoon when he accidentally shot himself in the stomach with a .38 caliber handgun, sustaining non-fatal injuries, according to the Adams County Sheriff's Department. Richard Steven Brown had just left the gun show at the Denver Merchandise Mart and was in his vehicle when the handgun accidentally discharged. There was no information in the incident report about whether Brown had just purchased the gun or why it was loaded, according to Sgt. Candi Baker, a department spokesperson. Five children who were injured or traumatized when a parolee opened fire at a Granada Hills Jewish community center in 1999 will receive $2.25 million from the Washington State Department of Corrections for its failure to adequately monitor the gunman before his rampage. Buford Furrow Jr., 46, is serving a life sentence in prison after pleading guilty in 2001 to the shootings at the North Valley Jewish Community Center. Seven semi-automatic pistols have gone missing from a southern security firm and security officers and a senior supervisor are being questioned by police about the missing firearms. Police sources said that each firearm is valued at approximately $2,500. South senior police investigators and the Estate Police Association, have launched a full investigation into the matter. It was revealed that the firearms were discovered missing on Tuesday but only reported to the Marabella Police Station yesterday morning. St. LOUIS COUNTY -- Three people were named in an indictment made public Friday involving what authorities said was a scheme to illegally buy and sell handguns and rifles. An affidavit filed in federal court in St. Louis by Special Agent Brian Hoffman of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives laid out these details: On Feb. 11, a representative of Mid-America Arms in St. Louis County told the ATF bureau that Janette Manion, 36, had bought seven guns since January, and her boyfriend, Jacob Maurice Davis, 22, had bought 11 in the past week. A massive cache of illegal arms has been seized by security agencies in the West Nile region, in the past fortnight. With the accumulation of illegal arms in the West Nile, following the 20-year-old LRA war and other armed conflicts in the neighbouring region's neighbouring countries, the security agencies swung into action early this month, to halt it.
