Death of 8yr-old Boy in Uzi Pumpkin Shoot Brings Calls for Gun Club Law
Boston Globe
8 Nov 2008
The micro Uzi machine pistol placed in the hands of an 8-year-old at a Westfield gun club's pumpkin shoot last month is so hard to handle that it has earned a nickname among gun enthusiasts: the "Fifty-fifty." "That means there is a fifty-fifty chance that you'll either kill whomever or whatever you're aiming it at or kill yourself," said Steve Traver, owner of D&S Gunworks, a firearms company in Hancock. "That machine gun should have never been at that shoot. It doesn't have a grip and has such a high rate of fire that even adults have a lot of difficulty controlling it. It's designed for highly-trained bodyguards, not children." Yet 8-year-old Christopher... ( gunpolicy.org )

Father of Boy Killed by a Stray Bullet Takes On the Global Gun Trade
Edinburgh News
8 Nov 2008
It would have been easier, certainly less distressing, for David Grimason to have quietly grieved the loss of his young son, who was shot dead by a stray bullet as he slept in his buggy at a Turkish holiday resort café, and left the fight against the horrors of guns to someone else. He might then have managed to avoid the misery of witnessing first-hand the horrors the international arms trade has inflicted on some of the poorest people in the world. Great Falls Tribune (Montana)
8 Nov 2008
Gun sales are booming in Montana, driven by a strong belief that President-elect Barack Obama and congressional Democrats will tax and restrict everything from ammunition to pistols, according to gun buyers and sellers. "The gun business, in the last three to four days, has seen very much an increase in traffic," said Justin Okes, sporting goods manager at Big Bear Sports Center in Great Falls. "To put it simply, (we are) very busy." Most customers tell him the reason for their purchase is that they're concerned about the future, Okes said. "Obama has been extremely good for business," said Rex Seeley, owner of Montana Outdoor Sports in Helena.... ( gunpolicy.org )

US Gun Owners 'Afraid of Obama,' Rushing to Buy Assault Weapons
Reuters
8 Nov 2008
PHOENIX -- Sales of rifles, pistols and ammo are surging in parts of the United States, as many gun owners fear President-elect Barack Obama's administration may seek to tighten ownership of certain weapons. "The day after the election, I had many more calls than usual from people looking for semi-automatic rifles," said David Greenberg, the owner of the Second Amendment Family Gun Shop, in Bisbee, Arizona, who sold out of AR-15 rifles in recent days. "There seems to be a fear they will be banned, and it's fairly likely," he added. "Obama and Biden are driven to eliminate firearms from the face of the country." Gun stores and trade groups have...
