Somali Lawmakers Accused of Criminal Activities, Ordered to Register Guns

Legislators in Somalia have been asked to register their weapons with the transitional federal government following a police official's accusations that lawmakers are involved in criminal activities, local sources said. Sheikh Adan "Madobe" Mohamed, the parliament Speaker, told lawmakers in the southwestern city of Baidoa that the government wants to know the number of weapons and guards each lawmaker keeps around for personal security. The plan to register lawmakers' weapons and guards comes from the office of Prime Minister Nur "Adde" Hassan Hussein, government sources tell Garowe Online. Georgia Gun Shop Loses 75 Handguns, Assault Rifles to Thieves

MARIETTA, Georgia -- Police are asking for the public's help after a huge heist from Wild West Traders Gun Shop at 2445 Austell Road in Cobb County. It happened Thursday just before 4:30am. Three men somehow bypassed the alarm system and were captured on surveillance video hauling out 66 handguns, seven assault rifles and two pistol grip shotguns from the racks and display cases. "We're dealing with 75 weapons that could be in the hands of anyone out there on the streets," said Sgt. Dana Pierce, Cobb County Police Department. East African Nations Team Up to Curb Gun Smuggling, Trafficking

MBALE --Security chiefs from Uganda and Kenya have stepped up efforts to end persistent arms trafficking along the common border. Last week, Uganda's and Kenya's joint border commissioners met in Mbale to fine-tune plans to stop the vice. The Minister for Presidency, Dr Beatrice Wabudeya, also attended the meeting at Mbale Resort Hotel. According to the army, the strategy is aimed at reducing gun-flow across the border. through cordial interactions between the defence and police forces as well as diplomatic contacts to ensure that there is peace, security and development in the region.
