Tough, Fair Gun Control Ought to Be the Goal of Every American. OK, NRA?
Tennessean (Nashville), Editorial
5 Apr 2008
The more everyone can apply common sense to the Second Amendment and spend less energy arguing over how to interpret it, the better the nation will handle its gun issues. While many gun issues dance around various aspects of the Second Amendment, the recent case argued before the Supreme Court came as close to hitting the nail on the head as any other. Justices heard arguments over Washington, D.C.'s ban on handguns. To a great extent, judging from the questions posed by the justices, most observers concluded the court is leaning toward asserting the right to carry weapons. Whatever the outcome, the case appears to be the most substantive on the core issue of... ( gunpolicy.org )

Risk of Violence, Injury, Death Increase in US Homes Where Guns are Kept
Sacramento Bee (California), Editorial
5 Apr 2008
Last month, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in a key case involving guns. In it, gun owners are challenging a District of Columbia ordinance that bars applicants from registering guns in the district and requires that guns kept at home be unloaded and either disassembled or locked. Opponents argue that the ordinance violates their Second Amendment right to bear arms. If they prevail, the impact will reach far beyond D.C. United Press International

A London company is defending its invention of a bullet-proof hoodie from criticism from anti-gun groups. Barry Samms, owner of Bladerunner, said the product is designed to protect people from violent attacks, The Times of London reported Friday. "Our current customers range from undercover police officers to concerned parents," he said. Some gun control advocates said the product, which is scheduled to go on sale within the next four to six weeks, would cause street violence to escalate. "It's not helping kids to provide them with bullet-proof armory," said Raymond Stevenson, a spokesman for the anti-gun group Don't Trigger. "These... ( gunpolicy.org )

Canada Customs officials say they're seizing four illegal firearms weekly from U.S. motorists at southern Ontario border crossings despite calls by city leaders for a crackdown on gun smugglers.
